So here we go, it seems just like yesterday that we were ringing the new year in – I remember clearly that was the day a whole bunch of us got on our bikes and rode till Nandi base – and now in what seems like the right thing to do, I plan to finish the year with another bike ride on the morning of 31st Dec 2015.
If the year 2014 was a humbling experience with some of the darkest memories, the year 2015 was one of consolidation, support and rebuilding my self. I remember how hard my suffering was on people close to me especially because they could not do anything to help and had to watch me go through the motions. But as they say, that which doesn’t kill you does make you stronger – and here we are today.
The first half of the year was spent on just rehabilitation and getting back to a basic fitness level and off course there were so many events, training runs and regular Protons training which kept me so occupied. And then we decided to launch the Bengaluru 10K Challenge which was a monster in itself – as soon as that got over, it was time for the 24 Hour Stadium Run followed by the Snap Fitness Event, then Scott Jurek came to India followed by Bengaluru Marathon, CCKR, the 12 Hour Stadium Run in Delhi and now New Delhi Marathon looms around the corner.
Its been an incredible journey and there has been so much learning not only professionally but also personally. I have had the pleasure of working, interacting and learning from some of the sharpest minds and I am so grateful for this opportunity.
Also over the last one year I have finally managed to gain a liking towards cycling and that change in attitude has improved my performance as well – yes! there is a long way to go but a step has been taken in the right direction.
I have also been clocking base miles this year – increasing my mileage real slowly over the last 4 months. In fact while I was in Delhi – I managed to clock in, for the first time since Feb 2014, a daily mileage of 11K over 6 days ending with a pretty decent 1:43 Half Marathon at the Stadium Run. I was honestly quite surprised with my run – simply because I have not been doing speed work at all and I was quite tired considering that we were organisers of this event – so yes, I was sleep deprived, tired as hell but at the end of it pleasantly surprised with the clock. This year, my attitude towards the gym changed as well. I credit the time spent at the gym strengthening to being able to come back to a decent pace without speed work.
At the end of the day, this has been a satisfying year with a lot of progress on multiple levels. I look forward to 2016 – I know for a fact that this will be yet another exciting, fun-filled year – a year full of quality events, training, travel and adventure.
