I have been writing for Sportskeeda for a while now and it was only obvious that when they announced a Sportskeeda app that I would be waiting to have a go at it. As luck would have it, the iOs app is still on its way and only the android app is available for use at this time. Honestly, I feel bad for iOs users at this point. Anyway, I hounded my dad for his android and downloaded the app early on Sunday morning. I spent the next few hours playing around with and exploring the app.
The first thing that hits you is the fact that 3600+ downloads later and after being on Playstore for over 3 weeks, this app has managed to maintain a rating of 4.8. So, I was impressed even before I downloaded the app. Now for those of us for whom the handheld device is a lifeline, every excess MB of space counts – so obviously the next thing that I looked at was the amount of space it would block on the phone. It was a pleasant surprise that this app occupies just over 4MB of space which makes it easy to integrate into any android phone with decent specs.
I was delighted with the app as soon as I started playing around with it – because it was aesthetically pleasing to the eye and a kaleidoscope of colors which presented a menu of sports to choose from. The app allows you to make it your own at the time of launch by allowing you to choose your favorite from that range – or even change later in case you would like to do so. So, this option is a heaven sent for a person like me and you, who would like to skim through only those sports that we are interested in – Squash and croquet hold absolutely no charm for me – sorry!!!!
So yes, that is exactly what I am saying; THIS app provides you with the option to have a dedicated newsfeed of sports news of your choice!!! Another option that I would’ve loved to have spent some time with is the live coverage of events of prominent importance. Essentially, the live stream aims to put all the best content from the web and social platforms at the epicenter of user experience, so you get a real-time update on all that is happening at your fingertips (literally)
This is the Beta version of the app and is going through constant iterations to give the users a revolutionary experience in terms of following their sport of choice. The team says that the app overall, and the feature of live event social streams will be better in a matter of days, and they are pushing hard to ship a better iteration of the app almost every week.
In coming weeks, the app plans to integrate leaderboards, points tables, and live scores more prominently. As per the Sportskeeda team, they wish to redefine what a sports app should be, and what it should do for a sports lover. They wish to build something that they would want to use for following sports themselves.
So yes, this is a simple, easy to use app which makes following your sport of choice as easy as a touch away. Now, I am waiting for the iOs version of the app. Come on team! Don’t make me wait much longer!!!!
